Locations of Learning: Transnational Feminist Practices

On February 22, 2014, Inderpal Grewal, along with Caren Kaplan, gave the keynote address at “Locations of Learning: Transnational Feminist Practices”.  This conference held at the Barnard Center for Research on Women was organized in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the publication of the landmark Scattered Hegemonies: Postmodernity and Transnational Feminist Practice.  Edited by Inderpal and Caren and published in 1994, this book marked a pivotal moment in the development of transnational feminisms with its examination of the circulation of ideas, people, capital, goods, and socio-political movements across different spatial and temporal boundaries.  With their analysis remaining crucial still today, the conference brought together scholars from across disciplines to explore how transnational feminisms can analyze and respond to today’s global transformations.  The keynote address along with all of the panels sessions were recorded and are available online.
