John-Albert Moseley: An Appreciation

After a European grand tour over the December holidays, John-Albert returned to announce a major life change. He would be moving to Dorchester, MA, and taking a new position in the Astronomy Department at Boston University so he could be with his partner, who had proposed to him in Salzburg, Austria, during the trip.  Whew!  We at WGSS and LGBTS wish him great success in his new career and much happiness in his new life.

J-A came to us with a very specific mission: to combine two separate but related Programs into one administratively, while preserving the essence and uniqueness of each. His 20+ years of Yale experience served him very well. Under his guidance he initiated order and procedures to make things run smoothly.  His enthusiasm and good humor made this major transition seem easy, but it was years in the making.  We thank him for leaving WGSS and LGBT Studies in such good standing.

During his tenure at Yale, John Albert worked within the university with the LGBTQ Affinity Group to change the Health Plan to cover transgender issues and to ensure more comprehensive spousal coverage.  His myriad outside interests include issues of faith and the LGBT community and leading a church choir.

John-Albert, we miss your wise counsel, your tenor singing voice, and your generosity.  You have left each of us with special memories of you.
